Media Center Expectations and Online Resources

I'd like to share our class expectations that are common to all of our students in all grades. Media Center classes are very collaborative, and we have a lot of fun as long as we work as a team and stick to the Koskey Corner Guidelines, which are:

  • Be kind.
  • Be safe.
  • Be respectful.
  • Be responsible.
  • Be good to the books.
  • Be good to the equipment.
  • Be good to each other and your teacher.

During our first quarter in Media Center, we will be learning how to be a Good Digital Citizen, which means we are talking about being kind, smart, and safe while using the internet. Student objectives include:
  • Learning how to find and verify reliable sources of information.
  • Being a kind and responsible member of online communities and fighting against cyberbullying.
  • Understanding privacy and what it means to have a digital footprint.
  • Becoming savvy about advertising on the internet.
  • Using the internet as a tool to explore the globe and expand learning.
There are numerous resources available for parents to help their children learn to be a Good Digital Citizen and I will be sharing them periodically throughout the quarter. A great place to start is with this article about talking to your kids about safe online behavior. I'd love to hear your feedback, and I am happy to have any questions you have about our Digital Citizen curriculum!

Welcome to Mrs. Koskey's Media Center!

Hello everyone, and welcome to a brand new school year! My name is Mrs. Koskey, and I am thrilled to be the teacher-librarian at the Koskey school this year. I can't wait to get to know all of you, students and families alike, as we learn and grow together. I will be updating this blog periodically with news, updates, and parent resources as the year progresses. We will celebrate successes and look toward the future as we develop skills to move us successfully into the digital age. This should be an especially exciting year as we get to test out brand new technology, thanks to a grant from the Jessup Foundation. Stay tuned for information on field trips and other exciting plans!
